A Story About Posture, Pain, and the Path Back to Joy

As a posture therapist, I help people improve their alignment by restoring balance in the musculoskeletal system.
Pain is often the signal that brings someone through my door.
Why we experience pain can stem from many sources — poor posture, injury, imbalanced movement mechanics, accumulated stress, and even unreleased emotions. The body holds stories. Sometimes the pain is simply asking to be heard.

Getting less than 7 hours of sleep on a regular basis can eventually lead to health consequences that affect your entire body and mind.

When my client Elena, a woman in her seventies from Washington, began working with me, she was motivated to maintain her independence, relieve her back pain, and feel strong in her body.

But last week, something new surfaced.

She was struggling — not just physically, but mentally and emotionally. She felt overwhelmed, stressed, and fearful about getting older.

The previous year had been full. She is an accomplished career woman, a devoted mother, a proud grandmother, and a loving wife. A recent move into a condo brought renovation projects and the work of creating a new home. Years earlier, when she relocated to DC, she felt exhilarated. But over time, the constant motion — moving, traveling, managing, staying busy — had quietly placed a toll on her nervous system.

Her calendar was always full. She felt compelled to stay busy.

I recognized this pattern because I had lived that way for much of my own life — until I learned to do things differently.

When we gently explored what lay beneath the overwhelm, the root revealed itself: a longing for connection.

She said, “I feel disconnected from myself.”

A few days earlier, she had picked up my newly released book Home Within. She asked if we could spend our next session talking about where to begin — how to come back home to herself and feel joy again. She commented that the title of the book felt soothing to her.

What Part of You Is Calling You Home?

I invited Elena to pause and ask: What part of you is calling you Home?
As human beings, we live in a dynamic dance between ego consciousness and soul consciousness.
The ego — our personality self — is not bad. It helps us function in the world. It strives, achieves, organizes, protects, compares, plans, and often pushes us to keep going. It is concerned with identity, safety, and external validation.
Soul consciousness is quieter. It connects us to our deeper Truth. It is the place of unity, love, intuition, and inner knowing. It is less concerned with proving and more interested in being.
Elena realized her busy, accomplished ego had done a remarkable job building a life. But her soul was longing for presence, connection, and tenderness.
She asked me, “How do I love myself?”

You Are Love
We do not learn to become love.
We remember that we are love.


Notice what happens when your heart shines toward another human being, a beloved pet, or when you stand awestruck before a sunrise or sunset. Something expands inside you. There is warmth. Spaciousness. Softness.
That expansion is your natural state.

Home Within is about the inner work that allows us to live more authentically from that place. When we cultivate this inner foundation, even when outer circumstances change — aging, transitions, losses, relocations — we remain anchored in light and love within.

Coming home is not about withdrawing from life.
It is about living it from a truer place.

The journey home is simple — but not always easy. It requires intention and commitment to show up each day for ourselves in a way that feels meaningful.

It is not just about reading the pages of a book.
