Only one left?!
That is what I said when I decided to take a picture of these nutritious and delicious treats to share the recipe with you! This batch yielded 20 balls that were left on the counter, and 24 hours later only one remained...
A testament to how good these are. Be careful, you may not be able to eat just one! Onto batch #2...
I like to have quick, healthy snacks available for a mid morning pick me up or a light afternoon snack with a cup of tea while I work at my desk.
These treats also provide an energy boost before exercise or great to carry along on a hike to keep blood sugar levels stable. I love that they are naturally sweetened with dates and are loaded with nutrients, high fiber and antioxidants to keep our energy elevated and immune system supported.
Nourishment and sustainable energy, how great is that?
These balls (or bars if you prefer) are healthy and easy to prepare in very little time.
All you need is a food processor and the listed ingredients.
Makes approximately 20 balls.
Chocolate chewy energy treats
1 small banana
3/4 cup fresh or soaked dates
1/2 cup sunflower seeds
1/4 cup macadamia nuts
1/4 cup raw cacao
1/4 cup ground flax seeds
2 tbsp hemp seeds
1 cup of large flake oats
2 tbsp almond butter
In a food processor, process all ingredients together until it becomes a thick paste. The hemp seeds can either go in the recipe or save them to cover the surface of the balls or bars once prepared.
The mixture will be a bit sticky. I like to use a heaping table spoon of the mixture to form the balls, roll gently in the palms of your hands and place on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper an inch or two apart. Place them in the freezer to set for 20-30 minutes. They do not freeze solid so they can be kept in the freezer until you are ready for a snack. I recommend it otherwise like mine, they may disappear quickly if they are left in plain sight!
Enjoy 🙂
